The movie based on Frank Miller’s graphic novel, “300” concerns the 480 B.C. Battle of Theropylae, where the King of Sparta led his army against the advancing Persians; the battle is said to have inspired all of Greece to band together against the Persians and helped usher in the world’s democracy.
In the spring 400 B.C., Persian King Xerxes arrived in Hellas to continue his father Darius’s essential plan to conquer the Hellenistic city states. Diplomatic attempts and the Persian invasion had already turned most northern Hellas states and tribes to the Persian side. But the Persian emissaries insulted the people of Athens and Sparta who requested to surrender to Xerxes and they were slain.
On the other hand in Sparta, King Leonidas consults the local oracle who gives two options. Either Spartan king will have to be sacrificed or Sparta will be burned to the ground.
